My name is Trey, and I live in Southeast Texas. We deal with a lot of home pest issues in this area, including fire ants, carpenter ants, and various types of rodents.
My Experience
As a homeowner, I am constantly researching and testing different approaches to pest control within my own home. Some of my attempts have failed miserably but I am always learning from my mistakes and making new distinctions that help me in my goal to have a pest-free home.
I share everything that I learn here on the site, including what works and what doesn’t. I am fascinated by the behavioral patterns of pests and so I spend a lot of time researching and sharing that information as well. I believe that the better we understand the pest we are dealing with, the better our chances of controlling them.
I actually worked for a local pest control company for about six months while I was in college. I quickly learned that the scheduled pest control measures that the company was providing to customers was something that I could do myself in my own home.
Some of the chemical solutions they use are pretty harsh so I prefer to look for alternatives when possible. Of course, extreme situations call for extreme measures and there is a time and place for more aggressive approaches. That includes calling in a professional for serious pest infestations.
But for the most part, preventing pest infestations is pretty simple. It just requires understanding the pests’ behaviors, including why they come into the home, what they are attracted to (food, etc.) and how they get in.
